Day 1.- Arrival – Lodge Tambopata River.
The tour begins when you leave the city of Puerto Maldonado and travel for two hours by car, the first part will be by paved road and the second part will be by bridle path until we arrive at the Tambopata River. The boat will be waiting for us and will take us up the river for 20 minutes until we reach our resort. Along the way we can probably spot capibaras and many shorebirds, arriving at the lodge we will get a cool welcome drink.
After you have settled into your rooms, you will enjoy a tasty lunch made from organic ingredients and native flavors. After lunch you will take a walk through the natural trails, where you will discover and learn about the primary and second forest, its components, uses, man-made transformations, and its relevance to the world. During this walk it’s possible to see some species of monkeys. At the end of the hike, we will climb the highest Canopy tower. A great place to see the amazon basin and be on the lookout for some birds like toucans, parrots and macaws. You may wish to extend to witness the sunset. After dark, we will head back to our lodge and take the boat engage in one of the most thrilling activities, caiman spotting. Using a large flashlight, we will search for white and black caimans along the Tambopata river bank, besides seeing an infinite number of stars, sometimes shooting stars and of course, the Milky Way with total clarity. Returning to the lodge you will enjoy a refreshing traditional dinner.
- FOOD: Lunch and dinner.
DAY 2.- MACAW CLAY LICK
Around 5 am is when the journey to the Tambopata macaw clay lick begins. It takes 20 minutes to get to the government checkpoint, where the tour guide will descend and check everyone in, after that the trip continues 1 hours by boat along the Tambopata River. There is a considerable probability that shorebirds, capibaras, caimans, and other forest wildlife will be visible throughout the boat ride, and why not to mention a Jaguar, I like to say it, we have a 20 % of probabilities to see one of these guys by the river bank.
Arriving at the clay lick you can observe red, green, blue and yellow macaws, as well parrotles and parakeets, feeding on the clay. We will have the opportunity to photograph and film this unique event from 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 am. Then we continue to the lodge to enjoy a rest or enjoy our swimming pool.
We will get our lunch, have some time off and then in the afternoon we will go to do some kayaking along the Tambopata river or a small stream, this is a very beautiful experience paddleing by yourself and people enjoy a lot of. We will go back to our lodge and then in the evening before or after dinner we will have a night walk, the sounds at night, the insects, spider, tarantulas, frogs and maybe snakes will make this night hike something difficult to forget.
