CHUNCHO MACAWS CLAY-LICK
3 DAYS 2 NIGHTS
DAY 1: Puerto Maldonado – Tambopata
Upon arrival at Puerto Maldonado Airport, you will be met by our team and transferred by road for approximately 1 hour, we then continue for 40 more minutes to reach the Tambopata River, where a 20-minute boat ride upstream will take you to the lodge.
In the afternoon, you will explore the surrounding trails with a guided walk through primary and secondary forest. During this excursion, you will learn about the ecosystem, its biodiversity, and its global importance.
At the end of the walk, you will climb a canopy tower offering panoramic views of the Amazon Basin, with opportunities to observe birds such as toucans, parrots, and macaws.
After dinner, you will head out by boat for a night excursion along the river to spot caimans using flashlights.
DAY 2: Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick
An early morning departure by boat (approximately 1 hour) takes you to the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, the largest known clay lick in the world. You will witness a remarkable natural spectacle as hundreds of parrots and macaws gather to consume mineral-rich clay. Species commonly seen include scarlet, blue-and-yellow, and red-and-green macaws, as well as several types of parrots and parakeets. This activity typically begins early morning and offers excellent opportunities for photography.
In the afternoon, you may choose to go kayaking on the Tambopata River or a nearby stream. This peaceful activity allows for close contact with the surrounding nature.
In the evening, you will take part in a guided night walk. This experience highlights the nocturnal life of the rainforest, including insects, frogs, spiders, and potentially snakes.
