ANACONDA EXPEDITION

Day 01. Introduction to the Amazon.

Reception at the Airport or Land Terminal.
You will be welcomed by a bilingual guide. If you have large suitcases, we suggest you repack and take only what you need.

Transfer to family business.
A car or minivan will take us for approximately 2 hours until we reach the banks of the Tambopata River. Where, we will take a boat with an outboard and navigate upstream, first the Tambopata River and then the Malinowski River, both for approximately 60 minutes, during the journey to the “Casa Malinowski Jungle Lodge” venture we will enjoy the incredible landscapes and the fauna found on the river banks.

Welcome and delivery of rooms.
Upon arrival at the Casa Malinowski Jungle Lodge, the family will welcome you while you taste a natural fruit drink from the season, and then show you your room, which has a single bed, a nightstand, private bathroom, and an armchair of liana and a large window open to the forest. The infrastructure is made of a palm tree called wasai and a crisneja leaf roof, which produces a fresh, calm, and harmonious environment with nature.

Lunch.

Exposition about our research.
One of the researchers of our research project will explain to you about the project “Diversity of gastrointestinal parasites and their relationship to health in snakes of the Boidae family.” Which is being carried out within the Tambopata National Reserve, which seeks to raise awareness among the local population about the importance of boas in ecosystems.
There will be a walk of approximately 2 or 3 hours, along the paths of the property.

Dinner.
After dinner we will go out to explore the Malinowski River, with the help of a flashlight, we will look for nocturnal creatures such as caymans(caiman cocodrilus), which generally go out to the sandbanks to regulate their body temperature.
Overnight at the hostel.
Day 02. Search for Anaconda and herpetofauna.

Breakfast.
After breakfast, together with the research project team we will go out to look for anacondas, in a boat with a Peque Peque motor we will enter a beautiful creek, which is a creek with crystal clear water, but that reflects a dark color, with trees and bushes that cross from one side to the other and often cover part of the creek, giving a dark and mysterious appearance that takes you into a wild jungle. In this creek, anacondas are usually found sunning themselves on branches and palisades. If investigators catch the individual, this is where you will have the opportunity to help take biometric measurements and stool samples for laboratory analysis.
After sailing for approximately 60 minutes, we will arrive at a mammal clay lick. A place with an unevenness in the ground, which was caused by mammals that gather in the place to eat clay, because it is rich in mineral salts, and this helps them in their diet. If we are lucky, we will be able to observe the wild Black spider monkey, red howler monkey, tapir, and collared peccary consuming clay.

Dinner
Day 03: Hidden lake.
- Breakfast.
- Exploring a oxbow Lake.
During the morning we will visit a Lake, where you can observe a great diversity of birds and spectacular views of the jungle. In a rowing boat, we will explore the shores of the lake looking for all kind of wildlife and also the famous Giant River Otter (Pteronura brasiliensis), a charismatic species, biological controller, and top predator.

Lunch.
In the afternoon we will navigate the Malinowski River until we reach a lake, where we will spend our energy looking for 2 species of armored caimans, the smooth-fronted caiman (Paleosuchus trigonatus) and the dwarf caiman (Paleosuchus palpebrosus), which were recorded in this lake.

Overnight at the hostel
Day 04 – 05 : Boas & fishing.
The Malinowski is a river where commercial fishing is not practiced, so you can catch large fish that weigh up to 50 kilos, as well as small fish. To do this, in the afternoon we will navigate the Malinowski River until we find a strategic place where we can fish with lines and with luck we will catch a big fish.

Dinner.
After dinner, we will walk the trails of the project with the project researchers in search of terrestrial and arboreal boas. On these walks it is common to find different species of amphibians and snakes. If individuals from the boidae family are found, they will participate in taking biometric measurements.
Day 6: Thank for your visit.

Return to the city.
After breakfast we will return to the city of Puerto Maldonado.
