DAY 01.- TAMBOPATA LODGE
We pick you up from Puerto Maldonado airport to then take you for 01 hour car to Tambopata River, where a motor boat will be waiting for us to then navigate the river for 15 minutes to finally arrive to our Lodge for the following days. Once at the lodge we go out for a nice introductory walk, where we have the chance to learn about jungle and at the same time to look for animals. This walk activity will take you not less than 02 hours, so this is a good chance for learning and animal spotting. At the end of the hike, we will climb the highest Canopy tower. A great place to see the amazon basin and be on the lookout for some pretty birds, White-throated Toucan, Curl-crested Aracari, Scarlet & Blue and Yellow Macaw among many more birds. You may wish to extend to witness the sunset.
DAY 2 MACAW CLAY LICK TAMBOPATA
We wake up very early, at 4:30, to leave at 5:00 a.m. our destination, the world’s largest Macaw clay lick, a trip of approximately 35 minutes boat trip, on the way we will have the incredible opportunity to see Capybaras, which are the largest rodents in the world, tapirs, and you can even see the South American feline, the Jaguar, many of our customers (35%) have seen this beautiful cat and they have photographic evidence of these encounters with these mammals.
Once arrived to the Macaw clay lick we will have a chance to see hundreds of parrots of different species who come to eat clay on the wall adjacent to the River. We will accommodate us in our chairs to wait to begin one of the most beautiful natural shows of the birds in the world. Species of large macaws the most colorful of America, Red and Green, Blue and Yellow and the Scarlet’s Macaws gather to eat clay needed in their daily diet to eliminate toxins. Parrots such as the Blue headed, Orange cheeked Parrot, White-eyed, Dusky-headed Parakeet, among others come every day to same place for the same purpose.
We will get our lunch, have some time off and then in the afternoon we will go to we will look for some birds we did not see one day before. Then we will go back to our lodge and then in the evening before or after dinner we will have a night walk, the sounds at night, the insects, spider, tarantulas, frogs and maybe snakes will make this night hike something difficult to forget.
DAY 03.- NATIONAL RESERVE OF TAMBOPATA
We will make up with the sounds of the birds and probably howler monkeys, will get our breakfast and then we will take a boat for 20 minutes and then travel 2 hours car to Puerto Maldonado. Where we will board a boat that will take us 1 hour downstream until we reach the Tambopata National Reserve. After checking in at the control point, we will walk 1 hour along a trail to a channel connected to the Sandoval Lake.
We will navigate the lake by boat or catamaran toward the Lodge to enjoy the excursion looking for wildlife before sunset.
This is one of the best places to find Giant River Otters, Red-howler Monkey, Brown Capuchin, Bolivian Squirrel Monkeys, and many water birds like Ringed & Amazon Kingfisher, Hoatzin, Agami Heron, Red-bellied Macaws and many more birds like Pied Lapwing, Capped Heron, Black Skimer, Snowy Egret, Great Black Hawk, Osprey, Eastern Kingbird, White Banded Swallow, Southern Rough Winged Swallow, Green Ibis, Olive Faced Flatbill, Ringed King Fisher, Purplish Jay, Crested Caracara, Black Vulture .
DAY 04.- LAKE SANDOVAL
IN the morning after breakfast we take the boat around lake to look for the family of Giant River Otter and many more wildlife like monkeys (6 species of New world Monkeys).
The midmorning we explore the trails then the afternoon we have the change see the return flight of the resident Red-bellied Macaw to the palm trees Mauritia.
In the night we will have a night walk to explore for night time creatures.
DAY 05.- BACK YO THE CITY
After breakfast, we will repack to back to the town and the airport.
