4 DAYS 3 NIGHTS
DAY 1:
Puerto Maldonado – Tambopata
We will pick you up at the Puerto Maldonado airport and then we will drive the Interoceanica highway for about 48 km, then enter to a dirt road by middle of the forest for approximately 18 km until get the bank of the Tambopata River to take a boat upstream for 20 minutes to the lodge.
Our lodge is located near the main Check Point Malinowski of the Tambopata National Reserve.
You will arrive at the Tambopata Lodge. After you have settled into your rooms, you will enjoy a tasty lunch. At the afternoon you will take a walk through the natural trails, where you will discover and learn about the primary and second forest, its components, uses, man-made transformations, and its relevance to the world. During this walk it’s possible to see some species of monkeys. At the end of the hike, we will climb the highest Canopy tower. A great place to see the amazon basin and be on the lookout for some birds like toucans, parrots and macaws. You may wish to extend to witness the sunset.
After dark, we will head back to our lodge and take the boat engage in one of the most thrilling activities, caiman spotting. Using a large flashlight, we will search for caimans along the Tambopata river bank, besides seeing an infinite number of stars, sometimes shooting stars and of course, the Milky Way with total clarity.
DAY 2:
Chuncho Macaws Clay Lick – Sandoval Lake
We will wake up very early, at 4:30, to leave at 5:00 a.m. our destination:
The world’s largest Macaw clay lick, a trip of approximately 45 minutes boat trip, on the way we will have the incredible opportunity to see Capybaras, which are the largest rodents in the world. You can even see the South American feline, the Jaguar, many of our customers (35%) have seen this beautiful cat and they have photographic evidence of these encounters with these mammals.
Once arrived to the Macaw clay lick we will have a chance to see hundreds of parrots of different species who come to eat clay on the wall adjacent to the River. We will accommodate us in our chairs to wait to begin one of the most beautiful natural shows of the birds in the world. Species of large macaws the most colorful of America, Red and Green, Blue and Yellow and the Scarlet’s Macaws gather to eat clay needed in their daily diet to eliminate toxins. Parrots such as the Blue headed, Orange cheeked Parrot, White-eyed, Dusky-headed Parakeet, and many more birds.
After the most intense show of the wilderness, we will come back to repack and move to the next lodge.
We will take a boat for 20 minutes and then travel 2 hours car to Puerto Maldonado. Where we will board a boat that will take us 1 hour downstream until we reach the Tambopata National Reserve. After checking in at the control point, we will walk 1 hour along a trail to a channel connected to the Sandoval Lake, where we will navigate the lake by boat or catamaran toward the Lodge to enjoy the excursion looking for wildlife before sunset.
DAY 4:
Back to Puerto Maldonado
At the morning after breakfast we’ll take the boat around the lake to look for the family of Giant River Otters and more wildlife like monkeys. After lunch, we will come back to the town.
Sandoval Lake is one of the best places to find Giant River Otters, Red-howler Monkey, Brown Capuchin, Bolivian Squirrel Monkeys, and many water birds like Ringed & Amazon Kingfisher, Hoatzin, Agami Heron, Red-bellied Macaws and many more birds like Pied Lapwing, Capped Heron, Black Skimer, Snowy Egret, Great Black Hawk, Osprey, Eastern Kingbird, White Banded Swallow, Southern Rough Winged Swallow, Green Ibis, Olive Faced Flatbill, Ringed King Fisher, Purplish Jay, Crested Caracara, Black Vulture.

The meeting point for this expedition is Puerto Maldonado, Peru (airport code: PEM). Please wait for confirmation from our team before booking your flight, as we’ll provide specific arrival details and updates closer to departure.
