ANACONDA EXPEDITION
10 DAYS 9 NIGHTS
Anacondas can grow up to 10 meters (20 feet) long and are the heaviest snakes on the planet. Despite their impressive size, these elusive giants are extremely difficult to find and face significant threats in the region, including habitat loss, climate change, and misconceptions that lead to uneducated killings.
On this expedition, we will gain access to pristine anaconda habitats, where many of these incredible reptiles have been spotted in the past. Our team will work tirelessly to provide a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to observe these apex predators in the wild, combining careful planning, local expertise, and a deep respect for the environment.
Day 1: Arrival in Puerto Maldonado, Peru
Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado (airport code PEM), you will take a short transfer to your hotel. Our guides will be there to welcome you, help you settle in, and provide any assistance you need.
In the evening, we will gather for dinner and a brief orientation, giving you an overview of your upcoming adventure. Afterward, you will enjoy a good night’s rest in preparation for the excitement of tomorrow’s jungle exploration.
Day 2–7: Anaconda Searching
We will travel to the first lodge, where we will spend the next five days exploring the tributaries and ecotones of this remote region in search of giant anacondas and other fascinating reptiles and amphibians. These elusive apex predators are rarely seen, making every sighting a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we may even encounter individuals of extraordinary size.
We will explore two magnificent lakes: one pristine and extremely rich in wildlife, the other ancient, mysterious, and steeped in history.
In these areas, we will set out in search of anacondas, particularly in the swamps and flooded forests.
Our expert guides will accompany you every step of the way, sharing their extensive knowledge, ensuring your safety, and using their experience to maximize your chances of observing these incredible creatures in their pristine natural habitat.
Night excursions will also be organized in the forest to observe other animal species, such as mammals, frogs, snakes, tarantulas, and much more.
DAY 7 – 9: Tambopata River Banks
We will be traveling to the second lodge, which is on the banks of the Tambopata River, where we will spend the next days exploring the tributaries, and ecotones for reptile and amphibian diversity.
The lodge is also near the region’s largest macaws clay lick (Chuncho). Each morning, hundreds of macaws and parrots gather there to feed on minerals.
This area is also one of the best locations for observing snakes, such as the emerald tree boa, rainbow boa, cat-eyed snake, boa constrictor, coral snake, bushmaster, or green jararaca.
Day 10: Back to Puerto Maldonado
Pack your bags and say goodbye to the Amazon. You will head back to Puerto Maldonado.
